We are saddened to announce the passing of Annie Wit of Rimbey, Alberta. Annie passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the age of 89 years.
Annie was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on February 7, 1935. Settling in Rimbey, she ran a convenience store and flower shop with her late husband, Harry Wit, for many years. Annie was also a volunteer host at the Pigeon Lake Provincial Park for over 20 years. Most of Annie’s days were spent at the Rimbey Seniors Drop-in Centre playing cards and floor curling, both of which she enjoyed playing two days a week. She also took great pleasure in a good round of golf. Annie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
Annie will be dearly missed by her five children Ron Wit of Calgary; Anita McDougall of Rimbey; Robert (Maureen) Wit of Calgary; Linda Wit (Doug Graham) of Red Deer; and Marco Wit, also of Red Deer; as well as the family’s dear friends Dawn Nesbitt and Kaori Makihara. She will also be sadly missed by her six grandchildren Cassandra, Cody, Christina, Jennifer, Tanner, and David; six great-grandchildren; in addition to many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Annie was predeceased by her husband Harry, her parents, one brother, and one sister.
The family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and doctors at the Rimbey Hospital for providing their utmost care and compassion, which was much needed and greatly appreciated. They would also like to thank the many family friends who provided support, along with meals, throughout their difficult ordeal.
With respect for Annie’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.
