WOOD
With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Norma Arlene Wood of Rimbey, Alberta. With her family nearby, Norma passed away at the Taylor View Towers, Red Deer on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the age of 90 years.
Norma was born in Storthoaks, Saskatchewan and lived in various places in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Alberta before settling in Rimbey for the past 50 years. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family deeply. Norma’s kind, generous, and caring qualities would always shine; especially when she was enjoying family gatherings and surrounded by those she loved. Norma was also a loyal friend who appreciated any time spent socializing, dancing, at a party, or in a room full of laughter. Whenever you were in her company, the ambiance was always comfortable. She possessed a vivacious personality; that always radiated an upbeat, positive energy that was easily felt. Norma also took great pleasure in activities like the theatre, gardening, floor curling, and games – especially the family favourite, Aggravation. She was a faithful volunteer and an active member of her community who enjoyed several organizations and groups, such as: the Leedale Ladies Club, United Church Women, Red Hatters, and the Seniors Drop-in Centre. As Norma was always game for any new adventure, she also welcomed any opportunity to travel. Norma maintained a pure joy of life, and her loving presence will be greatly missed.
Norma is survived by her children Debra (Ray Cimolini), Denyse Wood, Donna Misner, Roger (Lynette Ziegler-Wood), and Deana (Peter Sweeney); as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Tyler, Kayla (Paul, Jay, and Kasey), Alexis (Ryan, Braden, and Lathan), Josh (April and Kailey), Mathew (Tanya, Autym, Shiloh, and Salem), Travis (Nikka, Ryett, and Luxton), Eric, Sam, Nick, and Charlie. She is also survived by her brother Lorne (Shirley) Fleming; and a special friend Arnold Bergesen. Norma was predeceased by her husband Mathew “Bud” Wood, her son Scott Wood, son-in-law Bob Misner, and her siblings Shirley and Lowell.
A Memorial Service in Celebration of Norma’s Life will be held at the Rimbey United Church on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Marco Williams-Ste-Marie officiating. Norma will be laid to rest in the Bradshaw Cemetery at a later date.
