With sadness we announce that Marie Ellen Afric (née Marks) of Winfield, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 82 years.

Marie was born on October 30, 1941 to Viola and Albert Marks at the Thorsby Hospital.  She was raised in Breton and moved away in the early 1970s.  Marie had four sons Bradley, Robin, Michael, and Shawn.  She married Ivan Afric on October 11, 1986, and they lived in Edmonton for several years before retiring to the Yeoford area.  In 2023, they relocated to the West Pine Lodge in Winfield, where Marie resided until her passing.

Marie was a remarkable homemaker, and cooking was her greatest passion.  Banana cream pie was her specialty – and it was the go-to preference for dessert.  You never left Marie’s house with an empty stomach!  Gardening was another passion she possessed, along with pickling and canning fresh fruits and vegetables.  Making apple wine was her hobby from the huge apple tree in her backyard in Edmonton.  Every summer Marie’s home was full of her grandkids, who took turns spending their summer vacations getting spoiled by Gramma Babe.  She was a warm and giving person with a soft heart.  Marie will be dearly missed.

Marie will be lovingly remembered by her family Bradley (Tami) Robinson, Robin (Heather) Robinson, Michael Robinson, and Shawn Robinson; as well as her fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren who cherished her deeply.  She is also survived by her brothers Teddy Marks and Rolly (Marilyn) Marks; in addition to several nieces and nephews.  Marie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ivan, who passed away in September, 2024; two brothers Charlie and Freddy Marks; and her sister Elaine Plaquin.    

A Memorial Service in Celebration of Marie’s Life will be held at the Breton Community Centre, Breton, Alberta on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Calvin Skriver officiating.  Marie will be laid to rest with Ivan in the Breton Cemetery at a later date.  If desired, memorial donations in her memory may be made directly to the West Pine Lodge, Box 150, Winfield, Alberta  T0C 2X0.  Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
