COERS
With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Carl Henry Coers of Rimbey, Alberta. Carl passed away surrounded by his family at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the age of 91 years. With aching hearts we said goodbye to our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle.
After being born and raised on a farm in Holland and living through WWII, Carl’s adventurous spirit brought him to Canada in 1951. Once here, he worked his way across Canada as a farmhand, with a yearlong side trip to Australia to work on a cattle and sheep station. Carl eventually settled in Central Alberta with his wife and family. In 1972 he helped build the C+G Ranch and managed it for 20 years. Upon “retirement”, Carl worked for Monte Vista Farms, developing a very special relationship with the Pearman Family. When the time came for his “official retirement”, he moved into a consulting role for his son’s and grandson’s farms and continued on with his loves of travel, and spending time with friends and family.
Carl will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 58 years, Helen; his children Michawn (Martie) Giesbrecht, Shannon Coers (Rick Ritter), and John (Cathy) Coers; as well as four cherished grandchildren Kent (Tracy) Giesbrecht, Eve Coers, Anna Coers, and Kesler Skeels (Korah Anderson); and four precious great-grandchildren Emily, Ethan, Aevyn, and Tyler Giesbrecht. He will also be thought of fondly and dearly missed by his siblings Corrie Dunnink of Marathon, Ontario; John Coers of Maple Ridge, British Columbia; and Gyp Coers of Loenen aan de Vecht, Holland; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland; along with many close friends. Carl was predeceased by his parents; his grandson Shane Giesbrecht; five sisters; and one brother.
“Your labour is done,
Your home now is heaven; no more must you wait,
Your legacy lives on, your love of the land,
And we will close the gate.”
