HERMAN


Mrs. Erna Emma (Anne) Herman of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2021 at the age of 102 years. She resided at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre – Long Term Care for the past 3 ½ years.


Anne was born on July 6, 1918 at Wetaskiwin, Alberta to Henry and Minnie Hay, the 6th of their 14 children. On April 12, 1941 she was united in marriage to John Herman in Wetaskiwin. They farmed in the Bashaw area until the spring of 1950, when they bought a farm at Bluffton. Anne worked on the farm and cared for her family until they retired to Rimbey in 1968. She baked wonderful bread, buns, and pastries. Anne was also talented at crochet and knitting, and she hand-stitched many quilts. Most of these items were gifted to family and friends. Anne enjoyed dancing and playing cards. She was a long-time member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church and the Rimbey Drop-In Centre.


Anne is survived by her six children: Donna (Bill) Fawcett of Edmonton; Janet Assinger of Stony Plain; Rose (Dale) Laczo of Bluffton; Dennis (Ellen) Herman of Hoadley; Margaret McClure of Edmonton; and Mary Wright of Blackfalds; in addition to her 13 grandchildren, and many great and great, great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John; two sons-in-law, Robert McClure and Gordon Assinger; two great grandsons; her parents, Henry and Minnie Hay; as well as nine brothers and four sisters.


In keeping with the provincial gathering restrictions at the time, a Private Family Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Rimbey on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Father Les Drewicki, Celebrant. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Bluffton.
