HUSEBY

Dwayne Larry Huseby of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully at his home, with family by his side, on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the age of 73 years.

Dwayne was born on December 24, 1950, in Lacombe, Alberta to Lillian and Ole Huseby.  He was the youngest of three children and spent his early years on a farm near Lacombe.  At the age of five years, Dwayne moved with his family to the Tête Jaune Cache and Valemount, British Columbia areas.  His elementary school years were in Valemount, and he attended high school in Clearwater.  Dwayne then went on to study autobody mechanics in Kelowna.  The majority of his working years were in the tire industry, where he travelled the province of British Columbia and became a friend to many of his customers.  In his later years, Dwayne volunteered as an usher for the Chilliwack Chiefs hockey team.  He also spent many hours volunteering at the Atchelitz Pioneer Village farm museum in Chilliwack.

Dwayne enjoyed his motorbikes, beginning to ride at an early age and continuing to ride up until his health deteriorated.  He took great pleasure in many bike trips with his buddies over the years.  Dwayne also possessed a passion for cars, restoring a ’38 Chevrolet Coupe and a ’62 Pontiac Parisienne Convertible.  He was a talented woodworker, making beautiful items with his wood lathe.  Dwayne took great pride, as well, in keeping his yard meticulously landscaped and trimmed to perfection!  Throughout his life he loved camping, boating, and outdoor activities.

Dwayne was a devoted husband, father, and papa.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly; his daughters Carmen Huseby and Corinna Huseby (Chad); grandsons Wyatt, Ole, and Soren; and his granddaughter Lilly; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Lillian and Ole Huseby; his sister Lucille Erickson; and his brother Darrel Huseby.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers from FCSS who brought kindness and compassion into our home and went above and beyond to get a smile and some laughter out of Dwayne.  These caregivers played a huge role in fulfilling his determination and desire to remain at home throughout his illness.

Thanks also to the ALS Clinic in Edmonton and the team of professionals there who helped guide us and manage Dwayne’s neurodegenerative journey.  In addition, thank you to the ALS Society of Alberta who were an immense support, supplying all the equipment we required to care for Dwayne at home.

Thanks to the Rimbey Home Care team for their support as well.

Lastly, as Dwayne’s wife, I am hugely grateful for our two daughters who travelled this journey with me, navigating their own loss; and the extended family and friends who stepped up to create a village of support with phone calls, messages, check-in visits, long-distance visits, and many hugs.

A Private Family Graveside Service was held at the Gull Lake Cemetery, Gull Lake, Alberta on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.  The family hosted an Informal Gathering of family and friends to Celebrate Dwayne’s Life at the Royal Canadian Legion, Rimbey on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to the ALS Society of Alberta, 7874 – 10 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta  T2E 8W1 (www.alsab.ca).
