KELLGREN

Ivy K. Kellgren of Rimbey, Alberta, formerly of Alder Flats, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre – Area Two on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the age of 99 years.

Ivy was born in the Woody Nook, Alberta area to Herb and Caroline (nee Damant) Binning on November 5, 1921. She attended school and worked for many years helping out on the family farm. After the passing of her grandmother, Ivy agreed to help her grandfather, A.W. Damant and her uncle, Alan run the Alder Flats Post Office and General Store. It was in Alder Flats that she met the love of her life, Albert Kellgren, and on December 2, 1942 they were united in marriage. Ivy and Albert lived on the farm and raised their children in the Alder Flats area, relocating to Rimbey in August of 1990. After Albert passed away, Ivy lived comfortably in her condo at Rimbey Ridge Estates until she was 97 years old. She kept busy making 700+ quilts for the children at the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House, as well as quilted caps for ladies that underwent chemotherapy treatments in Red Deer. Ivy was also renowned as the prize potato peeler for the ‘kitchen witches’ that put on great meals at the Rimbey Drop-in Centre.

Ivy will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her three sons, Arnold (Margaret) Kellgren of Drayton Valley; Dwight (Rita) Kellgren of Alder Flats; and Arvid (Patsy) Kellgren of New Norway, Alberta; as well as eleven grandchildren, and numerous great and great, great grandchildren. She will also be lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Maida Kellgren of Beaumont; and her son-in-law, Russ Dodd of Rimbey; in addition to many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Ivy was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Albert in 2007; her son, Viego in 2014; her daughter, Thyra in 2019; and two brothers, Ted and Fred.

With respect for Ivy's wishes, no formal funeral service was held. Interment will take place beside her husband in the Alder Flats Cemetery at a later date. If friends desire, memorial tributes in Ivy’s memory may be made directly to the Rimbey Drop-in Centre, Box 1352, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0; or to the charity of one's choice.
