KOWALZIK
With sadness we announce that Walter Arthur Kowalzik of Rimbey, Alberta passed away quietly at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre – Long Term Care on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the age of 91 years.
Walter was born on September 23, 1931 at home in Kipp, Alberta. His early years in Southern Alberta were working with his father and brother on the family farm. His family later relocated to the Rimbey area where they worked hard together on the mixed farm, and Walter quit school to become a full-time farmer. In later years he also worked off the farm including Ropers in Rimbey, but mostly with Flint at the Rimbey Gas Plant. Walter retired after 25 years at the gas plant. He remained working on the farm with his son Doug for a while until fully retiring and moving into town in 1991. Walter continued to venture out to the farm to help out, and make sure Doug was doing things right! During his retirement Walter became more involved with the church, where he found strength and comfort and could help out wherever he could. A fall this past July landed Walter in the hospital, where he remained until his passing.
Walter leaves behind his three children Murray (Hazel) Kowalzik, Karen (Larry) Wolansky, and Doug Kowalzik; as well as five grandchildren Shannon (Byron) Fraser, Landon (Bree) Kowalzik, Shieghla (Meg) Kowalzik, Erin (Jeff) Fuson, and Brad (Sarah) Wolansky; and eight great-grandchildren Braiden, Tessa, Leeland, Nathanial, Izabella, Zoey, Ali, and Leo. He also leaves behind Dorothy’s children and grandchildren; a special family that played an important role in Walter’s life, sharing many stories and laughs. Walter is also survived by several nieces and nephews; other family members; and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Julia; his first wife Velma; his second wife Dorothy; his brother Johnnie; sister Lillian; in addition to numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.
A Public Memorial Service in Celebration of Walter’s Life was held at the Zion Lutheran Church, Rimbey on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Schultz officiating.
