MCLEAN
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Charlene Estella McLean (nee Ives) of Buck Lake, Alberta, who was taken away far too young after a long battle with cancer. She passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, November 26, 2020 at the age of 47 years.
Charlene was born in Wetaskiwin on June 7, 1973, and grew up in Buck Lake. She then lived for many years in Camrose before returning home to the Buck Lake area, where she married Darren McLean - whose love was her greatest comfort. Charlene loved to crochet and was always surrounded by yarn and crochet patterns, recently donating many of her beautifully crafted items to her local chapter of Santa’s Anonymous.
She was an aficionado of BBC’s sci-fi series, ‘Doctor Who’, from the early era to the current generation. Charlene also loved boating, fishing, and camping; and could often be found with Darren out on a summer day enjoying the outdoors. She had a soft spot for all animals, especially her dog, Bootsie.
Charlene is survived by her loving husband, Darren Joel McLean of Buck Lake; her brother, Joseph Morgan Ives and nephew, Corwynne Keith Ives of Edmonton; her daughter, Krystal Lynn Dyer of Camrose; and her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother, Elsie Ruth Ives (nee Carlson), who was also taken by cancer much too soon; her father, Harry Keith Ives; and a sister, Charmaine, who died in infancy.
A Gathering of Family and Friends to Celebrate Charlene’s Life was held at a later date. She was laid to rest on her father’s grave in the Maywood Cemetery, Buck Lake. If friends desire, memorial donations in Charlene’s Memory may be made to a cause that she cared very much about that benefits many families: the Alder Flats, Buck Lake, and Winfield Santa’s Anonymous, c/o Lois Gilbertson, Box 7, Site 4, R.R. #1, Winfield, Alberta T0C 2X0; or donations can be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, 710, 10123 – 99 Street N.W., Edmonton, Alberta T5J 3H1 (www.albertacancer.ca).
