OULTON
With great sadness we said goodbye to our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Daphne Ann Oulton of Breton, Alberta. Daphne passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, Rimbey, Alberta on Friday, September 1, 2023 at the age of 90 years.
Daphne was born on July 30, 1933 in Haynes, Alberta. Later, her family settled on a farm outside of Breton on Funnell Road. Daphne met the love of her life, Lyle Oulton, and they were married on August 18, 1952. The newlyweds settled in the Carnwood, Alberta area, at the teacherage provided by the school that Lyle worked for. Eventually, they relocated to Breton to raise their family on the Oulton family farm south of Breton. Daphne worked as a waitress, a retail grocery store clerk, and was the playschool teacher for many years in Breton. Over the early years of the oil boom in the area, Daphne was host to many oilfield workers and their families who were boarders in her home. During his high school years, Richard Dominy also stayed with the family while he attended the Breton High School, and he became a close, lifelong friend to them all. Daphne also worked the federal census many times. She was a Royal Purple member for 25 years, and sat on numerous boards and committees; some of which included the Funnell School/Community Hall, as well as the Breton Museum. Daphne loved square dancing, playing cards, quilting, and scrapbooking. She also loved to socialize, attend live jam sessions, and was always willing to support her community. Additionally, Daphne enjoyed travelling as much as she could. Above all else, Daphne’s greatest loves were her family, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.
Daphne will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons Wesley (Susen) of Olds; and Eldon (Shelley) of Breton; her treasured grandchildren Teagan (Allen) Goodsell of Leduc; Amanda (Christopher) Rolston-Mahon of Breton; Lexya (Kurt) Hansen of Breton; Chelsea (Bryan ) Kreil of Breton; Tyrel (Paige) Oulton of Rimbey; and Riordan Oulton, also of Breton; as well as her cherished great-grandchildren Brayden, Aspyn, Rylin, Alexander, Oakley, Patrick, Haylee, Coralena, Carter, Ava, and Sterling. She will also be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many close friends. Daphne was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Annie Westling; her loving husband Lyle; her son Milton; and her siblings Mabel Zackurak and Theo Westling.
A Public Funeral Service in Celebration of Daphne’s Life will be held at the Breton Community Centre, 4715 – 50 Avenue, Breton on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Jeff Gooderham officiating.
