PURDY

The Family of “Dno” (Dean Purdy) of Alder Flats, Alberta, announced his unexpected passing last fall at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the age of 62 years.

Dno was born in Calgary and grew up in Hillhurst, a northwest area of the city. In 1972 when he was in his early teens, Dno moved with his family to Rimbey where he graduated from the Rimbey Jr./Sr. High School in 1977. Dno worked on the family farm for years, later entering the construction and concrete field with his close friends, working all around the Rimbey area. In 2005 he met Kathy, in 2006 he moved to Vegreville for a short time, and in 2008 Dno and Kathy settled in Alder Flats. He really enjoyed the acreage at Alder Flats, putting his green thumb to work to produce the most amazing gardens! Dno grew everything imaginable. His last endeavour was working for the Wetaskiwin School Board as custodian, following in his father’s footsteps. Dno was always available to lend a helping hand to others, caring greatly for his friends and relatives. He loved riding his motorcycle, and as you can see by looking at the photo below, he also loved 4x4ing … and mud!

Dno leaves behind his loving family: his companion, Kathy Sarson and her family; and two brothers, Dana Purdy and his wife, Angie of Adelaide, Australia and their daughter, Raechelle; and Dave Purdy of Blackfalds. He also leaves behind many other close relatives, and a wide circle of cherished friends. Dno never had any children or grandchildren of his own, but treated Kathy’s children and grandchildren as if they were his very own. He was predeceased by his father, Jack in 2003; and his mother, Thelma in 2010.

A Graveside Service in Celebration of Dno’s Life will be held at the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. An Informal Gathering of Family and Friends, with light refreshments and fellowship, will follow in the Reception Room of Oberhammer Funeral Chapels from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorial tributes in his memory may be made directly to the charity of one’s choice.
