SCHWARTZ

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Cyril Schwartz of Rimbey, Alberta on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the age of 79 years.

Bob was born in Claresholm, in southern Alberta, to his parents Cyril and Margaret Schwartz.  He worked at Safeway Shelter Systems in Claresholm for many years, before going to work for Lorne Russell at a time when they built the Stavely Auction Market.  He learned many skills from Lorne and respected him immensely.  In 1968 Bob bought the family farm from his dad where he and Gloria raised their three daughters and farmed it together until 1988.  He then rented a half section of land east of Stavely from his brother-in-law Wayne; and along with some additional land, he mixed farmed for about seven years.  In 1995 Bob then purchased a half section located west of Rimbey; and in 1997 he bought a quarter section at Winfield, where he and Gloria moved. He loved his cows/calves and putting up hay… it was his dream place.  Bob and Gloria retired and moved to Rimbey in 2011. For eight years they enjoyed spending three months a year in Mesa, Arizona, where they made many friends that are still treasured today.  Bob also loved their home in town, and he spent all his time improving, building, and fixing it for the enjoyment of their girls and grandchildren.

Bob will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife Gloria of 59 years; his daughters Lori (Jay) Soukup, Debbie (Art) Wamsteeker, and Michelle (Pat) Burrage; as well as eight grandchildren Dusty (Krissy) Nieborg, Darby (Ellie) Nieborg, Corey (Jordan) Wamsteeker, Joel (Jill) Wamsteeker, Keely (Cahl) Sutherland, Erin (Randy) Maconochie, Josie (Joachim) Burrage, and Lacey Burrage; and four great-grandchildren Brynn and Emery Wamsteeker, and Paisley and Hayes Maconochie; along with two step great-grandsons Hawksley and Taves McCulloch.  He is also survived by his sister Pat (Allan) Fath; two brothers-in-law Wayne Schlosser and Clark (Ethel) Schlosser; in addition to many nieces and nephews, and their families, from both sides.  Bob was predeceased by his parents; an infant sister Yvonne; his brother and sister-in-law Pete (Delores) Schwartz; his sister-in-law Maxine Schlosser; and two nephews Gary Schwartz and Lloyd Schlosser.

With respect for Bob’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held.  The family will celebrate his life at a later date.  If desired, memorial donations in Bob’s memory may be made directly to the Stavely Pro Rodeo Association, Box 187, Stavely, Alberta  T0L 1Z0; or by e-Transfer to stavelyprorodeo@gmail.com. Thoughts and messages to the family may be shared through the condolence area located at the bottom of this page.
