We all thought that he was invincible… until he wasn’t. On Monday, February 10, 2025, we lost the mainstay of our family, our loving Stanley Eldin Wickberg of Ponoka County, Alberta. Stan passed away suddenly at the age of 65 years.
Stan was born on October 7, 1959, in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan to Shirley and Gordon Wickberg. Growing up on the farm, he was the third of seven children. Following high school, Stan moved to Alberta to become an entrepreneur who operated many successful businesses. He settled in the Homeglen District to begin farming and raising his family. Stan had two daughters with his first wife Penny Walton, and three more daughters with the love of his life, Yvonne “Bonnie” MacTavish.
Stan is survived by his wife of 39 years, Bonnie; and his children Nicole Wickberg; April (Jamie) McDonald and their children, Maria, Laura, and Luke; Sarah Adcock and her children, Amelia and Natalie; Tina (James) Dykstra and their children, Payton, Jocelyn, and Erin; and Karin (Adam) Richardson and their children, Mackenzie, Serena, Stanley, and Maverick. He is also survived by his mother Shirley Wickberg; his brother and sisters Lynn Heikkila (Alvin Nixon), Don (Pamela) Wickberg, Diane (Don) Raeburn, Dorothy (Perry) Dunn, Susan (Karl) Kryger, and Louise (Rich) Middleton; in addition to many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and close friends. Stan was predeceased by his father Gordon Wickberg; and his brother-in-law Ronald Bresch.
Stan left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. The void he leaves behind can never be filled.
A Funeral Service in Celebration of Stan’s Life will be held at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre, 5109 – 54 Street, Rimbey on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with Jolene Brayford, Funeral Celebrant. A Private Family Interment Service will follow in the Dakota Cemetery, Ponoka County.
